I’ve been trying to find the words to express what we experienced a few weeks ago and the profound impact it had on us in every way--physically, mentally, emotionally, and most importantly, spiritually.

Two Fridays ago, our six-week-old son, William, started coughing in the night. We took him to the doctor the next morning, and he tested positive for RSV.

When asked, “Why should people write a book?” I think the answer is simple. Writing our stories, in many ways, reinforces the truth that our stories matter.

The thing about midnight miracles, or miracles in general, is that everyone wants them. We all want miracles, right? We pray for them and believe for them - but we often forget to realize that to experience a midnight miracle, we have to be in a midnight moment. 

I’d be lying if I said I’ve never dreamed about a crowd chanting my name. Now, it’s been a long time ago since that was a dream of mine, but boy, was it ever a dream.

While we all may enjoy watching fictional stories of actors’ lives being in shambles and then being resolved, while we may even enjoy watching true stories of other peoples’ lives being in chaos and then being resolved, let’s be honest. No one likes the storyline when they’re the main character. No one likes it when the “movie of the year” suddenly becomes their life.

“The Boat” is a poem I wrote back in 2017 in an attempt to understand why we face difficulty in things that God calls us to do.
